Background

We know that internet access can be a real challenge, especially in rural areas. For this reason, we've made it possible to use some features of the Learn.ink native app without an internet connection.

Features that work offline

We've designed offline mode to enable users to easily complete and revisit courses even when they have no network. All of the following tasks can be completed while offline:

  • Complete courses that have already been started

  • Start a new course that has been saved offline

  • Watch videos in courses that have been saved offline

  • View resources that have been saved offline

  • View or edit your profile

  • View certificates that have already been downloaded

  • Update settings (e.g. change language, switch reminders on/off)

Features that require an internet connection

  • Register as a new user

  • Enter an access code

  • Download a new course or sequence

  • Watch a video that is hosted on an external provider (e.g. YouTube)

  • Download a new certificate

  • Switch to a new organisation

  • Sign out or delete an account

FAQs

Why don't you automatically download all courses to a user's phone?

We know that our users are very sensitive to data costs and some courses contain lots of images (or even videos). We want to make sure that our users have control of their data use which is why we let the users decide what content they want to download. We also tell users how many MBs each course will be to download so they can make informed decisions about how they spend their data.

Why can't users download certificates offline?

We have purposely made it so that users have to go online to download their course certificate. This is because we want to make sure that if a user is seeing "course completed" on their phone then this data is reflected in your dashboard. By forcing users to switch on their data to collect their certificate, this means their completion data will be sent to the dashboard and you'll be notified of their progress. Why is my user seeing an error message saying "you are offline"?

If a user tries to do any of the tasks that require an internet connection (e.g. registering as a new user, downloading a new certificate) then they will see a message telling them they need to go online to complete the task

Does the web version of Learn.ink work offline?

No, Learn.ink can only be used offline in the native app version.
